High‑Quality Clear Glass for Diverse Architectural & Decorative Applications

FLOAT GLASS: High‑Quality Clear Glass for Diverse Architectural & Decorative Applications

Float glass, also known as flat glass, is a versatile flat‑pane glass product manufactured through a molten glass floating process that yields exceptionally smooth surfaces and uniform thickness. It serves as the foundation material for a wide range of glass products including tempered glass, laminated glass, insulated glass units (IGUs), coated glass, patterned glass and more.
With excellent optical clarity, dimensional precision and consistent quality, float glass is ideal for architectural façades, windows, doors, interior partitions, furniture, mirrors and specialized decorative applications.

Product Introduction

Float glass is produced by carefully melting raw materials such as silica sand, soda ash and limestone at high temperatures. The molten glass is then floated on a bath of molten tin, forming a flat, uniform glass ribbon with two extremely smooth surfaces. This float process ensures high optical clarity, minimal distortion and consistent thickness, making it suitable for both commercial and residential uses.
As the base substrate for most processed glass products, float glass can be further fabricated into strengthened, safety or performance glass types to meet specific project requirements.
Float glass is available in multiple thicknesses and optional tints, offering flexibility for applications where clarity, light transmission and energy performance are priorities.

Key Features

Optical Clarity Provides clear visibility with minimal distortion, making it suitable for windows, doors and display applications.
Smooth Surface Finish Float manufacturing produces ultra‑flat surfaces that support high‑quality coatings and treatments.
Custom Thickness Options Available in multiple thicknesses (3mm–19mm or custom) to suit structural and design needs.
Compatibility with Glass Processing Ideal substrate for tempering, laminating, insulating and coating processes.
Architectural & Interior Versatility Used across façades, partitions, furniture and decorative elements.
Energy Performance Potential Can be combined with Low‑E coatings and insulating units to improve thermal performance.

Typical Specifications

Glass Type: Clear float glass, tinted float glass (gray, bronze, green, blue) Thickness Range: 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm … up to 19mm (or custom) Panel Size: Custom sizes available to project specifications Surface Quality: Smooth, distortion‑free
Float glass may be further processed to meet specialized requirements such as safety, thermal control, acoustic insulation and decorative design.

Applications

Float glass is one of the most widely used glass products in architecture and interior design. Typical applications include:
  • Architectural Glazing: Windows, curtain walls, façades
  • Interior Partitions: Office walls, meeting rooms, room dividers
  • Doors & Enclosures: Glass doors, shower walls
  • Furniture Glass: Table tops, shelving, display cases
  • Mirrors & Backing: Base glass for mirror production
  • Picture & Display Frames: Protective and clear glazing
  • Skylights & Canopies: Natural daylighting solutions
As the base material for advanced glass products, float glass plays a foundational role in achieving performance, safety and aesthetic goals in modern buildings.
