PDLC Switchable Privacy Glass

PDLC (polymer dispersed liquid crystal) switchable glass contains a liquid crystal film laminated between glass lites that turns from opaque (frosted) to clear when an electrical current is applied, providing instant, on-demand privacy without blinds or curtains.

Product Overview

PDLC (polymer dispersed liquid crystal) switchable glass contains a liquid crystal film laminated between glass lites that turns from opaque (frosted) to clear when an electrical current is applied, providing instant, on-demand privacy without blinds or curtains.

Key Features

Switches between opaque and clear states electronically, requires no mechanical blinds or curtains, can be integrated with sensors, timers, or building automation systems, and retains standard laminated glass safety properties.

Where This Glass Is Used

Conference rooms, healthcare partitions, hospitality privacy screens, and any application requiring switchable privacy.

Manufacturing Process

  • PDLC film lamination — A polymer dispersed liquid crystal film is laminated between two glass lites using a standard lamination process, similar to laminated safety glass.
  • Electrical connection — Conductive coatings on the film are wired to a low-voltage power supply and control switch, timer, or building automation interface.
  • State switching — Applying voltage aligns the liquid crystals for a clear state; removing voltage returns the film to its default opaque/frosted state.
  • Safety base glass — The base glass lites can be tempered or laminated to meet safety glazing requirements independent of the PDLC function.

Applications & Use Cases

  • Conference Room Partitions — Instant privacy for meetings without blinds, maintaining a clean architectural aesthetic.
  • Healthcare Privacy Screens — Switchable privacy for patient consultation rooms and treatment areas.
  • Hospitality Bathroom Partitions — Switchable glass between bedroom and bathroom spaces in hotel suites.
  • Retail & Display Windows — Switches between showcase and private-storage modes for retail display applications.

Technical Service

We support your project from drawing review to delivery, not just order fulfillment.
  • Drawing & Spec Review — Shop drawings and project specs are reviewed before production to confirm sizes, tolerances, and edge/hole details match your requirements.
  • Testing & Documentation — Mill test certificates, thickness/strength test reports, and compliance documentation provided for project submittals.
  • Technical Consultation — Our team advises on coating, thickness, and configuration selection to meet your project's structural and energy code requirements.

Customization

  • Custom Cut Sizes & Shapes — Curved, notched, cut-corner, and irregular shapes fabricated to your CAD drawings, not limited to standard rectangles.
  • Edgework & Drilling — Polished, beveled, or seamed edges, plus precision hole drilling and cutouts for hardware and fittings.
  • Coating & Printing Options — Combine with Low-E coating, tinting, or ceramic silkscreen/digital printing on the same order.

Packaging & Shipping

  • Export-Grade Crating — Reinforced wooden A-frame or flat crates with edge protection, built for ocean freight handling.
  • Container Loading — Load plans optimize container utilization while maintaining safe glass spacing to prevent transit damage.
  • Shipping Documentation — Packing lists, certificates of origin, and mill certificates prepared in advance for smooth customs clearance.
  • Lead Time — 7days in 12'' sample; 15days in mock up sample; 35days in project order.
